Hi, my name is Kalani and I am a half-caste Australian Aboriginal. My father is an Australian and my mother is an Aboriginal. They didn't necessarily love each other though. According to my mother, they were being forced into marriage. When British settlers came to Australia, they wanted to make all the Aborigines that resided here to be like them. This was because they believed their way of living was better than those of an Aborigines'. In order to do so, they tried a number of different methods. One of those was continuously forcing Aborigines to marry white people so that the race of Aborigines can slowly lessen. They wanted to 'breed the black out' of my race. Not long ago, my father had left us and the British were after me. Without my father's presence, they feared that I would not be able to learn in 'white' customs but instead adapt to Aborigines' customs. Which in their opinions, were bad. When they had come for me, my mother hid me in a hole she had dug before in preparation to that unpleasant event. Fortunately though, I was lucky to be able to escape from their unnecessary 'helping hands' and stay with my mum. For many of my friends and relatives though, that was not the case. Many have been taken away with barely any warning and not much was able to be done about it.
